Ausangate 07 Days / 06 Nights
Highlights
Ausangate is the highest mountain of the region of Cusco (6 384 meters) and the most representative. The trekking route is bypassing the northern side of the mountain, passing by huge glaciers and dozens of andean lagoons on which banks can be observed various andean birds like the huallatas (andean ducks). We will also observe a great quantity of south american camelids like lamas, vicuñas and alpacas.
Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – T’inki
We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco in bus to get to the town of T’inki, located to the south of Cusco. On our way, we will pass by Urcos, from where we will leave the main road to travel through divers native communities. We will view a few of the snow peaked mountains forming the Andes like the Ausangate itself, which is our main destination. By the end of the day, we will arrive in T’inki from where we will start our trekking tomorrow.
Day 2: T’inki – Upis
We will begin to walk toward Ausangate very early. In our way, we will be able to watch lamas, alpacas and other camelids in their natural habitate. Our final destination on this day will be the village of Upis where we will be able to enjoy the thermal baths before setting up our campsite.
Day 3: Upis – Pukaccocha
After breakfast, we will start our ascension to Arapa from where we will have a tremendous view of the landscapes and the various kinds of birds. Then, we will go down to the lagoons of Pukaccocha where we can observe the waterfalls coming from the glacier of Ausangate. This will also be the area of our campsite for this day.
Day 4: Pukaccocha – Palomani – Chillkapinaya
On this fourth day, we will do some more uphill walking to get to Palomani from where we will have a great view of the Ausangate. We will then go down again until reaching Chillkapinaya, where we will spend the night.
Day 5: Chillkapinaya – Jampa Valley – Pachaspata
We will continue our traject going to the valley of Jampa, an area where it is possible to see the local andean people in their diary activities. Next, we will walk up to the next path that will allow us to see the Ticllaccocha lagoon before beginning walking our way down to the plains of Pachaspata where we’ll set our fifth camping site near the Q’Omerccocha lagoon.
Day 6: Pachaspata – Pachanta
On this day, we’ll keep advancing, admiring the beautiful landscapes and the view of the high snow peaked mountains until we arrive in Pachanta, where some thermal baths will be waiting for you to take a dip. Overnnight.
Day 7: Pachanta – T’inki – Cusco
After breakfast, we will begin the last part of our trip, a short one that will get us to the village of T’inki marking an end to our journey to Ausangate, consider one of the most important peaks of the Andes. Finally, the bus will be waiting at this point to get us back to Cusco.
