Choquequirao 4D/3N
Highlights
The trek to Choquequirao is one of the most physically demanding one of all the trekking circuits you can encounter in Peru as its trail as a lot of very steep uphill and downhill parts. This is the ideal trek for the adventurers in search of a tough challenge.
Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Cachora – Santa Rosa
We’ll leave Cusco at 6 am to get to the town of Cachora where we will arrive around 10 a.m. Fromt this city, we will be able to see the magnificent peak of Padrayoc (5 482 m.a.s.l.) On the first day, we will walk for 21.70 km. On our way, we will see the peaks of Padrayoc and Wayna Cachora as well as deep precipices, roaming rivers and snow peakd mountains. We will have lunch on Rosalinda’s beach, from where we can observe the Apurimac canyon. Campsite in Santa Rosa.
Day 2: Santa Rosa – Choquequirao – Raqaypata
WAt about 5 a.m., after breakfast, we will continue ascending toward Choquequirao, where we will arrive at 5 p.m. We will havea guided tour of the site and some free time. We will be able to observe the 3 different levels of excavated ruins, enclosures, terraces and other areas stil in the process of being excavated. Lunch and dinner in Raqaypata (2910 m.a.s.l.).
Day 3: Raqaypata – Chiquisqa
On this third day, we will start our return walk back to Chiquisqa. We’ll walk for about 10 hours between 1950 and 3033 meters of altitude. We’ll have lunch on Rosalina’s beach, then we’ll continue until Chiquisca where we will camp.
Day 4: Chiquisqa – Cachora – Cusco
On our final day, we will return to Cachora. On our way back we will be able to appreciate once more the view of the Padrayoc mountain. We’ll have to walk about 7 hours today to reach Cachora. There, the bus will be waiting for us to get back to Cusco (4 hours).
