Highlights
The Inka Trail is the best way to get to the lost citadel of Machu Picchu. This route is viewed as one of the best trekking trail of the world for the variety and the exhuberance of it’s landscapes, as well as the impressive archeological monuments that can be seen on the way.
Itinerary
DAY 01: Cusco - km 82 – Huayllabamba
After breakfast at your hotel, the bus will pick you up to get you to Km 82 from where our journey will begin. First, we will cross the Urubamba river to get to Patallacta, where we will have lunch. We will then continue traveling through the Huayllabamba valley where we will spend our first night.
DAY 02: Huayllabamba – Pacaymayo
After breakfast we continue our walk until reaching the highest point of our trek, Warmihuañusca (4 200 m.a.s.l.). From this point we will have a tremendous panoramic view of the mountain range and its snowy peaks. Later, we will descend until reaching our second campsite in Pacaymayu.
DAY 03: Pacaymayo – Wiñayhuayna
We will have breakfast really early before strating our walk, ascending to the archeological site of Runkuraqay (3 700 m.a.s.l.). Then, we will go on until Saya Marca, another archeological site where we will have lunch. After lunch, we will reach Phuyupatamarca. Finally, we will arrive in Wiñaywayna (2 690 m.a.s.l.) where we will spend the night.
DAY 04: Wiñay Huayna - Machu Picchu – Cusco
After an early breakfast, we will walk until we reach the Inti Punku (Sun door). From this point, we will be able to see the sunrise over the magnificent citadel of Machu Picchu. We will then visit the entire site and take pictures for more than 5 hours. Then, we will descend to Aguas Calientes in bus to have lunch in Aguas Calientes, before we go back to Cusco by train.
