Lares - Ollantaytambo - Machupicchu 5 Days/4 Nights


Highlights
This trip combines the best of the Lares valley, the fascinating archeological site of Ollantaytambo and the incomparable Machu Picchu. Our first halt will be in the colonial village of Lares where we will be able to enjoy a dip in the thermal baths before we begin our trek. Then we will start our trek through the Andes mountain range. Each day, we will have plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding us. In Ollantaytambo, we will be able to see how the Inca culture still influences to this day, the culture of its villagers. After this part, we will have a short train trip to the Machu Picchu, one of the most famous and important archeological site.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Cuncani
We leave Cusco early in bus to get to the town of Lares (3 100 m) from where we will start our trek after a relaxing dip in the thermal baths. We will walk for 3 hours until our first campsite located in Cuncani.

Day 2: Cuncani – Quishuarani
We continue our trek, observing the snow peaked Cruz de Pata (5 700m). We will also observe the andean people in their daily activities, as well as lamas, alpacas and other andean animals. We will go uphill to the pass of Uchcyacasa (4 000 m) from where we can see our destination point for that day, the village of Quishuarani where we will camp.

Day 3: Quisharani – Cancha Cancha
Today we continue our trek, passing by a superb lake and the waterfalls of Pausi. We continue uphill until the Pachacutec pass (4 500 m) from where we can see the mounts of Pitusiray (5 750 m) and Chicon (5 500 m) as well as the lagoon of Suirococha, located near the village of Cancha Cancha (3 800 m), area of oour campsite.p>

Day 4: Cancha Cancha – Ollantaytambo.
This is the most difficult part of our trek. We will travel through narrow passages carved into the rock to get to Suyropata (2 800 m) where our vehicule will wait for us to get us to Ollantaytambo. In the afternoon, we will have a guided tour of this wonderful Inca city. Night in a 3 stars hotel.

Day 5: Ollantaytambo – Machu Picchu
Early in the morning, we’ll board the train that will lead us to Aguas Calientes. Once there, we will take the bus that will get us to the archeological site of Machu Picchu. Arrival at 11:30 a.m. approximately. We will have a guided tour of the site and in the afternoon, we will take the train back to Cusco, arriving at about 9:20 p.m.
