TREK PAST SALKANTAY 7 DAYS / 6 NIGHTS
Highlights
The tour begins in Mollepata, a village located in the heights of the Apurimac. We will also pass by the snowed peaked mountain of Salkantay before descending into the jungle to reach our final destination, Machu Picchu.
Itinerary
Day 1 Cusco - Mollepata – Markokasa
We pick you up from your hotel at 9 a.m. to begin our journey in a private bus, going by the andean towns of Izuchaca, Zurite and Incahuasi before entering the Limatambo valley, where we will be able to visit the ruins of Tarawasi. Then, we will descend to Mollepata where we will start our walk to arrive a couple of hours later to Markokasa, our first campsite. (Lunch, Dinner)
Day 2 Markokasa - Choquekiclla – Soraypampa
We’ll take an early breakfast before continuing our walking, appreciating the peak of Salkantay on our right and the mount Humantay on our left. We will camp at 4 000 m.a.s.l. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner).
Day 3 Soraypampa - Pampa Japonesa - Canal Inca
After breakfast, we will continue our trek, crossing through the foothills of mount Salkantay at a height of 4 200 m.a.s.l. before descending through the Inca Canal from where we will see splendid landscapes unfolding underneath us. Overnight. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner).
Day 4 Canal Inca - Tres Piedras – Llulluchapampa
On this day, we will walk toward Paucarcancha before walking down to Cusichaca in the Llulluchapampa valley also known as Inkaracay where you will encounter a wide variety of animal, fruits and plants. Overnight. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner).
Day 5 Llulluchapampa - Pakaymayu - Sayacmarka
After visiting the archeological site of Inkaracay, we will reach Huayllabamba from where we will enter the Inca Trail. We will then start to walk up to the pass of Warmiwañusqa (4 200 m.a.s.l.). Later on, we will arrive in Pacaymayu and we’ll camp in Sayacmarka.
Day 6 Sayacmarka - Phuyupatamarca - Winaywayna
On this day, we will walk by the high jungle also known as cloudy forest where you will observe a great variety of flora and fauna. We will also visit archeological site of Phuyupatamarca.
Day 7 Winaywayna - MachuPicchu - Cusco
Early in the day, we will reach the Intipunku (Sun door), the entrance way to the Machu Picchu. From this point, you can witness the splendor of the lost citadel. Then, our guide will give us a guided tour of the site. Then, during the afternoon, we will go back to Cusco by train, arriving at about 10 p.m. Transfert to your hotel.
